Some families know a great deal about their roots; others
know very little. This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history.
I'm a British Celt! I am a mix of English, Welsh, Irish and
Scottish. By researching my genealogical heritage I hope to find a deeper connection with the ancestors who shaped who I am
today.
This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might be included.

What's in a name?
My name means big or great kettle or cauldron. Kettyle is a derivative
of the norse word Ketil, which is where kettle comes from but it was used not just to describe the cooking pot that boiled
water etc. but had greater significance as this vessel was also used in ritual worship - it therefore had a deeply spiritual
and powerful connatation. Many viking warriors were called Ketil. How Ketil became Kettyle I have yet to determine but I can
say my branch goes back to Fermanagh, Northern Ireland to at least the 19th century.
